Police arrest dozens protesting oil pipeline at White House
Writer and climate activist Bill McKibben is among those arrested outside the White House at the start of 2 weeks of planned demonstrations by activists opposed to construction of an oil pipeline carrying petroleum from Canadian ‘tar sands’ to Texas. Groups backing the actions say that more than 2,000 people have signed on to be arrested during the length of the protests.
What do protests mean when people are just getting arrested?
